Bajaj Pulsar N160: Expert Review

A few days ago, we briefly tried out the N160 and thought it was a good motorcycle. Now, after testing it more thoroughly, here's our final opinion on it.

Styling & Quality

The Pulsar N160 is a modern-looking street bike with a cool headlight, a sleek fuel tank, and a sharp tail. Some people compare the headlight design to a Yamaha bike, but it gives the N160 a unique and futuristic look. People often stare at the bike when it stop at a red light. It comes in four different colors, including red and blue, which look fun. The bike is well-made, with sturdy plastic panels and smooth switches. Even after riding it for a week, the panels didn't make any noise.

Ergonomics & Comfort

The seat of the motorcycle is at a good height of 795mm, making it easy for riders of all heights to ride on. The handlebar is angled forward and the footpegs are placed slightly back, so you sit with your knees bent and slightly forward. The seat isn't super comfortable for long rides, but there is enough space to move around. The suspension is good for most surfaces, handling bumps and rough roads well. However, on really rough surfaces, you may feel some discomfort and need to slow down.

Performance & Handling

The N160 looks and sounds like a modern Pulsar. It may not be as smooth as a Honda, but it has its own unique character. There are some vibrations at higher speeds, but the power delivery is steady, making it easy to ride at low speeds. The gearbox and clutch are smooth and easy to use, making it a great bike for city riding.

On the highway, the motorcycle feels best between 90-100kmph. At higher speeds, it starts to vibrate and the engine feels strained. Overtaking requires planning and shifting gears. The bike's best feature is its handling, thanks to its well-designed chassis, lightweight, and slim tires. It's easy to ride through traffic and change lanes. The steering is responsive, the tires have a good grip, and the bike is fun to ride on twisty roads. The brakes work well at slower speeds, but you have to press harder at faster speeds for better braking.

Features & Technology

In terms of what it comes with, this bike has some standout features like a USB charger, dual-channel ABS, and a 14-litre fuel tank. It has a semi-digital instrument cluster that shows important information like distance-to-empty and gear position in an easy-to-read way. However, it doesn't have some features that its competitors do, like Bluetooth connectivity, hazard lamps, and a silent starter. It would be better if Bajaj added these extras to make it even better than its rivals.

Fuel Efficiency

The Pulsar N160 impressed us with its fuel efficiency of 51.6 kmpl in our test. This is one of the best in its category. With a 14-liter fuel tank, you can travel up to 722 km on a full tank.

Should You Buy Bajaj Pulsar N160?

The Bajaj Pulsar N160 is a good bike for everyday use, weekend trips, and sometimes longer journeys. It is a nice mix of being sporty and practical. It is fast, easy to handle, comfortable, and saves fuel. However, compared to other bikes in the market like the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and Hero Xtreme 160R, it is not outstanding in any way. It is also not the cheapest option available. Despite this, if you choose to buy the N160, it will meet your expectations as a good sporty commuter bike.
