Royal Enfield Meteor 350 - Expert Review

The Meteor 350 is a significant model as it introduces the renowned 349cc J-platform engine, replacing the older 350cc UCE (Unit Construction Engine). This motorcycle takes on the responsibility of filling the void left by the discontinuation of the Thunderbird.

Design

The Meteor 350 features a classic cruiser design, reminiscent of the Thunderbird but with some modifications. It sports a teardrop-shaped fuel tank that slopes sharply down to the rider's seat, a design reminiscent of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The bike presents itself as a full-sized cruiser, creating a strong road presence that is accentuated further by the windscreen on the Supernova and Aurora variants.

Engine, Mileage & Performance

The Meteor 350 is equipped with a single-cylinder 349cc, air-cooled engine generating 20.2PS of power and 27Nm of torque. Paired with a 5-speed gearbox, these numbers may seem modest, but the Meteor's tuning ensures smooth riding even at higher speeds. It can easily maintain 100kmph in 5th gear without vibrations at higher RPMs. The bike is most comfortable cruising between 90-105kmph. While the overall performance is satisfactory, some enthusiasts might hope for a bit more power from the Meteor.

Handling & Ride Quality

Despite the Meteor 350's listed weight of 191kg, the bike exhibits agility and maneuverability, making it easy to handle in city traffic. The overall ride quality is good, although there are some concerns about the limited suspension travel and a relatively stiffer setup at the rear.

This means that on rough roads, shorter imperfections like expansion joints and uneven concrete blocks can be felt more distinctly. Nevertheless, the suspension setup is generally decent for a cruiser and is capable of handling most challenges that a rider might encounter.

Comfort

The Meteor 350 ensures rider comfort with its spacious seat and slightly forward-set footpegs. In the top-end Supernova variant and the new Aurora variant, a substantial front windscreen is provided. This windscreen effectively reduces the impact of wind, maintaining a comfortable riding experience without compromising the rider's field of vision. The windscreen can be adjusted for taller riders, although this adjustment requires a hex key.

Features

The Meteor 350 has a semi-digital instrument cluster featuring an analog speed dial and a digital display providing key information like fuel level, time, gear position, odometer, and trip meter. Additionally, riders have the option to include Royal Enfield’s Tripper navigation module, offering turn-by-turn navigation functionality. Ensuring safety, the Meteor 350 is equipped with dual-channel ABS.

Should you buy the Royal Enfield Meteor 350?

If you're in search of a motorcycle embodying classic cruiser characteristics, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 proves to be an excellent choice. It strikes a good balance between performance and cruiser-like comfort, making highway journeys enjoyable.

Moreover, its agility allows for easy handling through twists and turns. Considering these factors, the Meteor 350 is a compelling option for cruiser enthusiasts.
